Transformers: Heavy Metal
Niantic, known best for its work on augmented reality games Pokémon Go, Ingress, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, is tackling the Transformers next. A new AR game called Transformers: Heavy Metal is coming to mobile devices later this year, Niantic and developer Very Very Spaceship announced Monday.
In Transformers: Heavy Metal, players will join a group known as the Guardian Network and team up with the Autobots to challenge the Decepticons. Players will uncover hidden regions across Earth to find resources and battle Decepticons in turn-based battles, Niantic said in a news release.
First screenshots of Transformers: Heavy Metal show Autobots like Bumblebee and Decepticons like Skywarp will be featured in the game.
Transformers: Heavy Metal uses Niantic’s Lightship platform, the software that enables augmented reality apps to use real-time 3D mapping and multiplayer social experiences. Transformers: Heavy Metal can be played cooperatively with friends, Niantic said.
