Quart de Singe
In 'Quart de Singe,' or 'Quarter Monkey' one player starts by saying a letter. The next player adds another letter to the sequence, continuing until a word is formed. Anyone can challenge the previous player to reveal the word they have in mind. If the player being questioned said a letter without thinking of a word, they become the 'quart de singe' (a quarter of a monkey). The same goes for the player who follows the one who completes the word. To console themselves, the 'quart de singe' becomes the game's new leader. The game is lost when, after being a 'quart de singe,' a player becomes a 'demi de singe' (half a monkey), 'trois quarts de singe' (three-quarters of a monkey), and finally, a 'singe complet' (a complete monkey). Why a monkey? Well, that's another story... This game is recommended for those enduring long waits at the supermarket on a Saturday before Christmas or at the Colbert post office on the 4th or 5th of the month.
