Nature is easier to learn, highly interactive, and provides a more forgiving experience to new players when they are targeted by predators. Most importantly, the core game system is structured such that the expansions are easy to add on and combinable. Every expansion brings its own personality and interesting choices, and the ability to combine them makes for endless new ecosystems to discover.
