The worlds economy has turned into a bartering system with money having little or no value. As the governments of the world collapsed so too did the supply and logistics networks that delivered food, medicine, and other daily luxuries. The times of walking to the local grocery store to pick up a gallon of milk are over.
The vast majority of the worlds population is dying of starvation, plague, and violence due to limited supplies and a crippled world economy. People no longer work together to better society, instead focusing internally on themselves, their families, and their own survival.
The Survivors band together to form small, tight knit, communities that pool resources, provide protection to one another, and share labor. Other groups like the Scroungers, Hunters, and Collectors choose to loot, pillage, or take whatever they need or want. The few Governments of the world that managed to hold together attempt to restore order by offering shelter and protection to those willing to follow the rules.
