The story generator has some designed events that are randomly generated over the gameplay. Each character has his own personality and traits that drive towards different decision and reaction to the situation in the storyline.
There is no exact definition of ultimate goal, you could live off forever by building enough sustainable lifestyle, keep survivors and creatures happy, or kill the strongest sea creature to declare victory at your own pace, or simply find enough materials to eventually craft a boat to escape the island, and many more.
